Drift What Ya Brung 29/04/09 Photos

Wasnt that pleased with my shots today, was struggling to get things focussed well… Guess a night on the beers last night didnt help things today – was struggling! Will be more focussed (pardon the pun) next time!

Anyhow

A few preview shots:

Pow! Oil fire fail!

Ok, so this isn’t a fail – more of a serious disappointment! I found this post over on WreckedMag. Theres also a good chance it wasnt an oil fire…. but I was struggling to come up with a title! :D

“The guys over at Tuner Icons sent us this snap of Matt Waldin’s Nissan 350z on fire at a grassroots event this weekend. Matt Waldin recently made his Formula D debut at Long Beach. In his first appearance he qualified for the top 32 but was eliminated by Chris Forsberg in his NOS Energy Drink Nissan 350z. We did not get any details on what caused the fire but hopefully Matt will have the car in good shape for Formula D Atlanta soon.”

The perfect motorsport shot….

Blam! This is how its done! Check out speedhunters to download this superb desktop Y0!

Inspiration…

Another Flickr find, this S2000 does it for me in just the right way. The only thing I would change is I’d lose the rear wing for daily driving and bolt it back on for the track.

Perfect. Rocking a Spoon Hardtop, and debadged – this would be EXACTLY the way I’d want to run mine.

South Mimms Honda Meet 19/04/2009

Yesterday was a good day… Because yesterday was the latest South Mimms Honda meet – and the turnout was superb!

I intended to meet up with the HC MK lot but as I was short on time in the afternoon I met them at the Toddington services and jumped on the M1 convoy. In fact I turned up and then led them away from the service station. Being as we all drive fairly nippy and high revving Hondas I assumed that driving at 70mph wouldnt be a problem, even for the lowly EJ9s :P … but I soon lost them! I spent the rest of the journey looking in my mirrors in the hope that some of those that had never been to South Mimms before wouldnt get lost.

I even experienced the shame of being passed by a lorry on the slip road to the M25 when I slowed right down in the hope that people would catch up. Only Tommy in his new (and lovely) DC5 and another chap (whos name I didnt get) in his blue EK4 managed to stay with me.

I thought we would be among the 1st to arrive at mimms but when we pulled in there was already 50+ cars waiting for us!

The scene at around 6:30pm

As usual we met up with a ton of regulars, and met lots of newer members of Civiclife which is always good. Most of the time I dont remember peoples cars so I know I have seen a car before, but have no idea who owns it!

As the evening progressed the car park was stacked! The South Mimms management were great, who came out and told us that they were not expecting us but didnt have a problem with us as they could tell we were very laid back. The police also said the same thing after a couple of chavvy cocks in Fiesta’s (with bad boy bonnets!) decided to drive through the masses of Hondas revving and wheelspinning… cocks… I’m glad that 99.9% of the crowd were well behaved (as always) with just one guy in a coupe cranking his (shit) music right up – I think it was the same guy who almost got us kicked out of the Ace Cafe…

The only real down point of the night was the small crash involving a guy who tried to start his car while it was in gear with no handbrake on from outside his car. It rolled across the car park and in his desperate efforts to stop the car the owner dented a mint EK4 before his car ploughed into Ross’s coupe. Was a real shame but the EG was shagged while the other cars were ok-ish. At least the owner of the EG is forking out for repairs on the other cars.

As the night went on I checked out some of the nicer cars on offer and was suitably impressed by the quality. I was also dead impressed with the number of new cars that I hadnt seen before with most from new members. From a nice NSX to Linzi’s stock 08 5 door hatchback… all cars are welcome at mimms!

Insane Air-bagged jumping car…

I’ve seen these performances from cars with hydraulics before, but they are NOTHING compared to this… Fucking insane!

Drift What Ya Brung 15/04/2009

Yesterday I went to Santa Pod for another great DWYB day… and with plenty of seat time it turned out to be a great day for taking photos!

Honda Culture MK Meet

On Sunday I attended the seriously laid back Honda Culture meet in Milton Keynes and although not a huge turn out – it was well worth it! On the same day there was a big meet in Essex, Birmingham and also the donny show but those that showed up proved it was well worth going with some cracking cars showing up.

Originally organised for the a supermarket car park, once the heavens began to open the organisers did a great job of shifting the meet to a covered multi-storey car park. The atmosphere was friendly and laid back with nobody wanting to cause trouble that would see us kicked out (which is how it should be!).

DN’s EK4 was really looking hot with his old school OZ Turbo’s and mean stance. His Engine bay is now looking cleaner than ever with some tasty new PW:JDM goodies.

I also was inspired to crack on with project TC09 after chatting to the owner of this sweet K24 Jordan.

Sundays meet was also a good chance for me to work on my lower light photos.

Perfect EK9 – Tegboys EK9 Ground up build

Following on from last nights post, here are some more details the build that I consider to be the best EK9 in the UK by far…

Following an unfortunate incident that bent his old DC2 Integra beyond repair, James had to do something drastic to make the most of a bad situation. Fortunately he came across a bit of good luck with a rolling EK9 Civic shell being found at reasonable money – which was snapped up and stored while the project funds accumulated.

The thing I like about this build is that everything is being done properly, with no short cuts or half measures being settled for. If something isnt available due to financial reasons then it is held off until it is available with nothing that wasnt on the original shopping list making it in. If you want to a particular product then be patient and wait until you find it at a price you can afford!

Subframe was dropped so that it could be cleaned and painted.

I wont go into too many details of the build, because if you want to see more info on the build (and even if you dont!) you should check out Tegboy’s build up thread on Civiclife here – Ground Up EK9 Build Up.

Last night I went to peep this project for the 1st time, and even after reading through the project build up (several times) I was blown away by the quality. The car isnt finished yet, with just a few more things left to do but even so the standard of finish on this car is like no other EK9 I have seen in the flesh!

I only managed to take about 20 photos last night as the light was fading fast and as the car isnt done yet I thought I’d find an excuse to go back and see it once its up and running (hopefully snag a ride too!). Here are a few photos from last night:

The only thing that makes this project not perfect (for me) is that it isnt Pheonix Yellow. If it was then it would be the EXACT same Nine that I have dreamed about for a long time! Any comments will be seen by Tegboy – so lavish praise on him in the comments people!
